Four consecutive draws between July 4 – 7

The second draw was on July 5, and 500 applicants from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) occupations got selected with the minimum CRS score of 486 points. The draw is expected to take place well in advance.
The third draw of the week was on July 6, in which 1500 applicants got selected in the category-based selection draw for healthcare professionals. The cut-off score was set at 463 points.

Then the next day, on June 28, the IRCC conducted the first-ever category-based draw and selected 500 applicants with work experience in healthcare occupation and a minimum CRS score of 476 points.

Category-based selection

As per Bill C-19, the category-based selections in the express entry draw have become a norm that will help select in-demand occupations as economic immigrations to promote the Canadian economy. There will also be measures taken to promote the French language outside the Quebec region.
The newcomers in Canada will not have specific attributes of language and work experience rather than merely focusing on the CRS score.

The categories that are considered to fill the labor market gap in Canada are -

Healthcare

  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  • Transport
  • Agriculture and agri-food
  • Strong French language proficiency

As per the target for 2023, the IRCC plans to admit 82,880 new permanent residents to Canada through the express entry Program.
