This is the fourteenth Express Entry draw of 2023 and the first one for the month of June. In the new EE draw the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)  has invited 4,800 candidates. It is an all-program draw with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 486. It means applicants with a CRS score of 486 or more will be selected for relocation.

The Key Highlights of the Draw –

  • ITA – 4800

  • CRS - 486

Before this, the Express entry draw was held on May 24, in which 4,800 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 488 got selected in an all-program draw. The CRS score requirement in May and June has been higher than in April. The Category based selection of applicants is expected to take place in the summer. As per the IRCC’s latest development in the immigration channels, the IRCC has been focusing on selecting applicants based on their occupation. There are now six new category-based selection criteria for  the selection of the express entry applicants.

The new categories will support the economic goals of Canada, and the latest categories which have been selected are -

  • healthcare

  • science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  • transport
  • agriculture and agri-food

There is also a category for French-speaking applicants. The exact draw of when the category-based draws will be held is not disclosed by the IRCC. The applicants who wish to be selected for immigration should be in the pool, after which they are picked as per their ranking and CRS score. The ITAs are issued to those who have the highest score.
IRCC will keep holding the all-program draws and program-specific draws as needed.

How has the Express Entry draw been in 2023?

Apart from the latest draw, the IRCC has invited 49,948 candidates in the last 13 draws. This is more than the applicants invited in July-November in 2022. No draws were held until July 2022 as a long pause was taken by the IRCC due to the coronavirus Pandemic.
In the last month, there were two draws held in May. The first draw was held on May 10, a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw for 589 candidates. The applicants in the pool were nominated by the provincial government and picked for selection.
In April, both the draw were similar, and all program draws to which 3500 applicants each were invited. The CRS score for April 12 was 346, and for April 26 was 483.
March has seen four draws and has invited the highest number of appellants. In Three draws, 7000 applicants were invited to each draw, and in the last draws, 667 candidates were invited to PNP-only Draw. Thus, this month saw more than 21,677 applicants.
The month of February saw four draws, and each draw was specific. As three draws were for PNP candidates, and the fourth  draw was for candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Program.
January had two all-program draws, and IRCC invited 5,500 candidates each.

What is Express Entry?

The express entry channel was started in 2015, and it is a pathway that selects skilled workers in their different subcategories – Federal Skilled Workers Program,  Federal Skilled Traders Program, and Canadian Experience Class.
The applicants are ranked in the pool, and the highest-scoring applicants are selected for ITA.
