Which occupations are now eligible for the Express entry category?

  • healthcare
  • science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  • transport

The Express Entry candidates will work and have language experience in selected occupations and receive the Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Healthcare occupations represent half of the overall occupations that are part of the category-based selection. The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations take up a large part of the nominations; the Immigration applicants with work experience in any listed occupations in the Express Entry pool must be eligible for an ITA. It is the highest-scoring applicants who are part of the selection process.

IRCC selects the occupation categories after discussion with the provinces and territories.

What is an Express Entry program?

The express entry program selects skilled workers in a point-based evaluation system. The applicants with the highest score will receive the ITA. There are three subcategories of express entry –

  • Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Traders Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The CRS score is calculated with the help of age, language,  work experience, and educational qualification.   It is the highest-scoring applicant who is issued the ITA. The candidates should submit their documents in the next 60 days from the date of issuing the ITA.

Applicants who cannot immigrate through the express entry system can choose the provincial nominee program method to relocate to Canada. With the high immigration target for this year, the Canadian government is all set to meet its labor shortage.
