Resuming category-based Express Entry draws, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has given 3,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in their most recent draw especially associated with healthcare. Since July, this is the first such draw aimed at healthcare professionals and shows Canada's growing dedication on addressing personnel shortages in key sectors.
With a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 463, the draw focused on healthcare aimed itself as a deliberate endeavor to attract highly sought-after capable workers. Along with a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on November 18 and a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw on November 19, this draw fits a greater sequence of Express Entry activities this week. These are the second consecutive weeks with consistent Express Entry applications.
As part of Canada's immigration policy, Express Entry is underlined in the Immigration Levels Plan of IRCC. The government plans to accept 124,680 newcomers using the Express Entry system in 2024 from 82,000 places allocated for the new In-Canada Focus category. Although this category may also include applicants from the PNP-aligned streams, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), it primarily offers CEC candidates now living in Canada top preference.
With an eye toward those with expertise in fields suited for Canada's evolving labor market, the remaining 41,700 seats fall under the "Federal Economic Priorities" category.

Comprising three main programs—the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)—Express Entry is Canada's application management system for economic immigration. Applications are ranked using the CRS, which factors age, occupation, education, work experience, and language competence. Extra CRS points are earned for things like applying with a spouse, having a brother in Canada, combining Canadian and overseas education and work experience.
Candidates with a provincial nomination from an upgraded PNP show a large 600 CRS point boost, thereby significantly increasing their chances of obtaining an ITA.
The restarting of healthcare-specific draws underlines Canada's proactive approach to alleviate manpower shortages and use its immigration system to help significant sectors. Rising immigration targets and inventive category-based decisions make the Express Entry system ever more crucial in deciding Canada's demographic and economic future.
